Johnson & Johnson reported encouraging early results for JNJ-6143, formerly HLD-0915, in previously treated advanced prostate cancer. Among 16 patients with measurable disease in the 50mg cohort, 12 achieved a confirmed complete or partial tumour response.
That 75% response rate applies to the measurable-disease subgroup, not every participant in the trial. Separately, 77% of patients at the dose achieved a confirmed prostate-specific antigen reduction of at least 50%, while 48% achieved a reduction of at least 90%.
The investigational oral medicine is designed to bring the androgen receptor and BRD4 together to trigger cancer-cell death. The results provide an initial clinical test of that approach.
The commercial appeal is clear, but the evidence remains early and uncontrolled. Larger studies must establish how durable the responses are, clarify safety and determine whether the treatment improves outcomes against relevant alternatives. Biomarker reductions and tumour shrinkage should not be described as established survival benefits.
