Bristol Myers Squibb's iza-bren programme gained further clinical support from two Chinese Phase 3 studies. In Panku Lung-01, involving EGFR-mutated lung cancer after a third-generation EGFR inhibitor, median progression-free survival was 11.1 months with iza-bren and 5.7 months with the comparator.
Panku Breast-01 also reported a positive progression result. In previously treated hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, median progression-free survival was 8.2 months versus four months.
Overall-survival results were immature, particularly in the breast-cancer study. The findings therefore support claims about delaying progression, rather than settled claims of extending life.
The paired readouts broaden the experimental bispecific antibody-drug conjugate's evidence base. They also underline the importance of regional development strategy: convincing results in China do not remove the need to meet other regulators' requirements.
For Bristol Myers, the commercial promise depends on translating repeated progression benefits into a consistent, tolerable treatment profile across the populations and healthcare systems it hopes to serve.
