New HARMONi-GI1 results strengthen the case for ivonescimab in first-line biliary tract cancer. In the Chinese Phase 3 study, ivonescimab plus chemotherapy delivered median overall survival of 14.9 months, compared with 12.1 months for Imfinzi plus chemotherapy.
The hazard of death was reduced by 25%. Median progression-free survival was 8.4 months versus 5.8 months, corresponding to a 39% reduction in the hazard of progression or death.
The detailed readout adds substance beyond an earlier topline announcement. It also offers an active-comparator test in a disease where improvements in survival are particularly consequential.
For Akeso and international partner Summit, the broader question is how the evidence supports development and registration across different territories. A positive Chinese trial does not automatically establish an approval route elsewhere. Regulators will assess the population, treatment practices and overall evidence package. The data improve the programme's clinical standing while leaving those jurisdiction-specific questions open.
