Amgen reported that Imdelltra combined with AstraZeneca's Imfinzi reduced the hazard of death by 58% compared with Imfinzi alone in the Phase 3 DeLLphi-305 study. Median overall survival was 21.1 months versus 12.7 months.
The trial evaluated maintenance treatment in patients whose extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer had not progressed after initial Imfinzi and chemotherapy. The survival figures therefore run from the maintenance setting studied, rather than from diagnosis or the start of initial chemotherapy.
The randomised study enrolled 563 patients and provides a direct comparison against an active maintenance regimen. That makes the result particularly relevant to decisions about earlier treatment sequencing.
For Amgen, successful regulatory expansion could increase Imdelltra's addressable population. Clinical adoption would also depend on tolerability, monitoring requirements and delivery capacity. The new results support a potential earlier role for the drug, but the study announcement itself does not authorise the investigational combination for this use.
