Lutris Pharma has released updated Phase II findings for LUT014 gel, an investigational treatment for acneiform rash associated with EGFR inhibitors. The results were disclosed for presentation at the EADV congress.
The 0.1% gel achieved the study's composite treatment-success endpoint in 71.8% of patients, compared with 38.5% receiving placebo. Lutris also reported lower non-adherence to EGFR-inhibitor treatment: 10.3% versus 28.2%. Benefit on the composite endpoint remained evident at day 55, beyond the 28-day treatment period.
The commercial rationale for supportive oncology is easy to underestimate. A treatment that helps patients tolerate an effective cancer medicine could address an important limitation of the overall regimen.
However, the adherence finding should not be converted into a claim of improved cancer survival. This trial evaluated dermatological toxicity, and the product remains in development. Lutris also plans to explore rash associated with daraxonrasib. That would test a broader application of its approach, rather than demonstrate that broader application has already been established.
