DropGenie has secured $5 million in Seed+ financing to expand a functional-biology platform built around gene editing in primary patient-derived cells. Investors include BDC Thrive Venture Fund, Skeleton Key, Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, CQDM, Real Ventures and Anges Quebec.
The company says its miniaturised workflows can use up to 100 times fewer cells than conventional approaches. That is a company performance claim rather than an independently established comparison across every experimental setting.
The financing will support commercialisation and additional ways for customers to access the platform, including laboratory deployment, research services and data partnerships.
The business addresses a concrete research constraint: useful human cells can be scarce, expensive and difficult to work with at scale. Commercial success will depend on reproducibility, integration into discovery workflows and whether the resulting data change development decisions. The funding supports that expansion, but it is not evidence that any medicine developed using the platform will succeed in patients.
