Marker Therapeutics announced a $2.6 million award through the FDA’s Orphan Products Clinical Trials grants programme. The funding will support a Phase 1 study of MT-601 in patients with locally advanced, unresectable pancreatic cancer.
The company said six projects were selected from 66 applications in the 2026 funding round. Selection followed scientific review covering the rationale, study design, feasibility and potential contribution to product development.
For a small biotechnology company, grant funding can support a defined research programme without issuing shares for that portion of expenditure. It also provides an external assessment of the proposal. Neither feature should be confused with an endorsement that the treatment works or will receive marketing approval.
MT-601 is designed to recognise multiple tumour-associated antigens. That approach aims to address the heterogeneity that can complicate cancer treatment, but its performance in pancreatic cancer must be established in patients. The award helps finance that investigation; the commercially important evidence will come from the study’s safety findings and subsequent assessment of clinical activity.
