Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) Adds Cardiovascular Detail to Foundayo's Diabetes Case

New reporting on Lilly's ACHIEVE-4 study provides a fuller view of oral orforglipron, marketed as Foundayo, against insulin glargine in adults with type 2 diabetes, excess weight and elevated cardiovascular risk.
The trial established noninferiority for its primary cardiovascular endpoint. At 52 weeks, the reported HbA1c reduction was 1.6 percentage points with Foundayo versus 1.0 with insulin glargine. Average body weight fell 8.8% in the Foundayo group, compared with a 1.7% increase in the comparator group.
Those findings support a broader commercial proposition than convenient oral dosing. For diabetes treatment, glucose control, weight and cardiovascular safety all influence the discussion about where a medicine belongs.
The statistical hierarchy still matters. A primary noninferiority result should not be rewritten as a blanket demonstration of cardiovascular superiority. Secondary and prespecified analyses provide additional information, but each requires its own interpretation. Nor does this comparison establish superiority over other incretin medicines. The useful advance is a more detailed evidence package against the trial's actual comparator.
