European medicines advisers recommended extending Talvey’s indication to include combination treatment with daratumumab, with or without pomalidomide, for adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma after at least one prior therapy.
Johnson & Johnson announced the opinion on 16 October, citing Phase 3 MonumenTAL-3 evidence. A final European Commission decision remains necessary before the proposed indication becomes an authorised European use.
The commercial logic is clear. Moving a medicine earlier in the treatment sequence can increase the population eligible to receive it, while combining two medicines from the same portfolio can reinforce an existing franchise. Talquetamab targets GPRC5D, offering a different tumour target from BCMA-directed approaches.
Earlier positioning also raises the importance of treatment selection, tolerability and sequencing. A recommendation to broaden use does not establish that every eligible patient should receive the combination or that competing approaches are inferior. For investors, the immediate milestone is regulatory progress; sustained value will depend on how clinicians incorporate the regimen into an increasingly complex myeloma treatment pathway.
