Hansoh Pharma has presented Phase III results for olatorepatide, its investigational GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist, at EASD. The disclosure reports average weight loss of 19.3% at 48 weeks in the 15 mg group under the efficacy estimand, compared with 2.7% for placebo.
Under the treatment-regimen estimand, the corresponding figures were 18.7% and 2.5%. LIGHTEN enrolled 604 Chinese adults with overweight or obesity and tested three once-weekly doses against placebo.
Hansoh said China's regulator accepted its weight-management application for review in June. Acceptance starts a review process; it does not confer approval.
The results strengthen the company's evidence package in a large domestic market. They also underline the growing range of obesity programmes emerging from China. Comparisons with other medicines require restraint: differences in population, trial duration and statistical approach can materially affect headline percentages. LIGHTEN supports conclusions about olatorepatide against its own placebo group, rather than a ranking against products tested in separate studies.
