CSL named Deborah Waterhouse as its next chief executive, effective 1 February 2027. She joins from GSK, where she has led ViiV Healthcare and overseen the development of its HIV treatment and prevention business.
The appointment follows a difficult period for CSL, including pressure on immunoglobulin pricing, lower albumin use in China and challenges in its vaccines and kidney-disease franchises. The company is also pursuing a substantial restructuring programme.
Waterhouse brings experience managing a specialised global medicines business and introducing new treatment formats. That background is relevant to CSL's need to strengthen commercial performance while renewing its pipeline and simplifying operations.
An executive appointment is nevertheless an organisational milestone, not evidence that the underlying earnings pressures have disappeared. Investors will look for clear priorities once she takes over, particularly around capital allocation and the balance between cost savings and growth investment. The transition period leaves interim leadership responsible for maintaining momentum before the new chief executive formally begins.
